Manila urges devotees to observe discipline for safe Traslacion 2025

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan is calling on devotees to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations set by the Church and law enforcement authorities, as the annual Traslacion procession of the image of Jesus Nazarene approaches. 

The procession, which marks the celebration of the Feast of Jesus Nazarene every January 9, is expected to draw six million participants, and safety remains a top priority of city officials.

In a statement, the mayor urged the public to cooperate with the guidelines to avoid any disruptions and ensure a smooth and safe experience for all. 

She disclosed that the preparation for Traslacion 2025 started in August 2024. 

Lacuna-Pangan emphasized the importance of discipline during the event to prevent untoward incidents, as the massive crowd may pose challenging conditions.

The mayor also urged devotees to refrain from bringing children or persons with disabilities (PWDs) to the procession to prevent missing or injured persons reports.

The devotees were also reminded not to wear jewelry or carry prohibited items, as these could cause unnecessary distractions or complications during the procession. 

She also called on participants to refrain from attending the event if they are under the influence of alcohol, stressing that intoxicated individuals could endanger themselves and others.

"Lagi po nating iisipin na gawing banal at maayos po ang pagdiriwang po natin ng Nazareno (We must always think about making our celebration of the Nazarene holy and orderly)," the mayor stated.

The mayor assured the participants that the city government of Manila has taken significant steps to prepare for the procession. 

Local government units have been instructed to do their part in ensuring smooth operations.

Meanwhile, City Engineer Moises Alcantara reported that the designated procession route has been thoroughly inspected. 

The inspection included checking for any hanging electrical wires, potholes, and open manholes, ensuring that the route is safe for barefoot devotees.

The medical teams will be on standby throughout the event to handle any health emergencies that may arise.

As the Traslacion draws near, the mayor urges both the devotees and local authorities to work together in making the event a safe, orderly, and spiritually enriching experience for everyone involved.
