Negros Occidental allots P30 M for Panaad

BACOLOD CITY – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has allocated P30 million for the staging of the 29th Panaad sa Negros Festival from March 24 to 30.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said that on top of this fund, they will also generate more income from kiosks and sponsorships to enable them to spend it for expenses that cannot be covered by the provincial government. “We will try to give the best show this year,” he added.

By the end of January or the first week of February, project proposals will be submitted for approval, with funds expected to be released soon after, Diaz said. Since it is election year, the province decided to adopt the preferred date after a consultation with local government units.

Preparations for the much-awaited festival dubbed as “mother of all festivals” in the province are in full swing, with the bidding for food kiosks and tents conducted soon. Festival organizers are keen on giving local vendors the chance to sell their goods and participate in the celebration to give them an opportunity to earn during the event.

The festival will feature various booths and activities, including 128 tents available for lease. Although initial estimates placed the number of tents at 128, Diaz said that the number may rise to around 150 as demand grows.

Seventeen food kiosks will be allocated for the food alley where a wide array of delicacies will be available.

Festival-goers can also look forward to the opening of the covered court that will host basketball exhibition and an invitational game between local government units for the first time this year. “The area will be much busier than the previous years,” Diaz said.

The province is taking extra measures to ensure that the event runs smoothly and safely with the expected influx of visitors. 

Mayor’s permits will be required for all bidders and vendors as organizers are aware of the tendency for some individuals to take advantage of the situation. "We have learned from past experiences," Diaz said.

Diaz said that they will not dictate pricing of goods as multiple options will be available from the LGU booths and the SMB area. “We do not want to meddle with price control. They (revelers) can always choose where to buy,” he added.

This year’s theme is “The Future is Now” that reflects the resilience and hope of the people of the province amid Kanlaon Volcano.

“We’re hoping that all aspects go well including our situation with Mount Kanlaon,” Diaz said. He is looking forward to this year as being one of the greatest Panaad versions.
