Adiong hopeful senators will see urgency of BARMM polls postponement; thanks Marcos

Lanao del Sur 1st district Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong is hopeful that senators will respond to President Marcos' certification of the bill resetting the first regular parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as urgent.

"This certification underscores the national government’s commitment to ensuring that the Bangsamoro electoral process is not only democratic but also conducted under conditions that promote stability, inclusivity, and genuine representation," Adiong said in a statement Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Adiong, an assistant majority leader in the House of Representatives, is one of the principal authors of the BARMM polls postponement measure in the lower chamber.

The bills seeks to defer the polls down south from May 12 to October 2025.

"With the House already passing its version of the bill, we remain hopeful that the Senate will likewise pass its counterpart measure at the soonest possible time, he said.

"We trust in the leadership and wisdom of our colleagues in the Senate to see the urgency of this legislation and act in the best interest of the Bangsamoro people,"added the Mindanaoan.

Adiong expressed his "deep gratitude" to President Marcos for seeking the immediate passage of the bill.

"We remain steadfast in our commitment to working with all stakeholders, both at the national and regional levels, to uphold the aspirations of the Bangsamoro people and ensure that when elections are held, they reflect the true will of our constituents," the congressman said.
