
Six senior high school students were injured in an alleged chemical explosion inside a science research center in Barangay San Antonio, Makati City on Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported.
According to the BFP, the explosion occurred at a lab workbench inside Globetek Science Foundation Inc. at around 6:12 p.m.
Those injured were identified as Janel Bundalian, Caile Bernardino, Aleysha Loraine Salonga, Blaze Isabel Cereno, Lea Angela Moreno, and Lorenz Jarabejo.
They were immediately rushed to the hospital and are now in stable condition.
The Makati Fire Department contained the chemical leak at around 6:46 p.m. and declared the site safe for arson investigators to enter and probe the cause of the leak and explosion.
Arson investigators said the explosion was caused by an ethanol leak.
The estimated amount of damage to property was placed at around P5,000.
