SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna – The Bureau of Immigration arrested an alleged member of the notorious Japanese criminal syndicate Luffy Group in Barangay Soledad here on Monday afternoon, Jan. 27.
The suspect was identified as Sasaki, 44.

The Japanese Embassy in Manila said that the suspect, along with his accomplices, used deception to steal automated teller machine cards from their victims.
They allegedly posed as police officers and Local Finance Bureau employees to obtain bank cards and information under the pretext of a police investigation.
A report from the Japan National Police Agency identified the suspect as a member of the Luffy Group that allegedly still operates telecom fraud and extortion schemes in the Philippines.
A warrant of arrest was issued against him by the Tokyo Summary Court on Jan. 20, 2023, for theft in violation of Article 235 of the Japanese Penal Code.
He is an undesirable alien who poses a risk to public safety and security as a fugitive from justice as per official communication received by the Fugitive Search Unit from Chief Consul Makino Hideki of the Japan Embassy in Manila dated Feb. 14, 2023.
Sasaki is in the custody of the Fugitive Search Unit while deportation proceedings are being conducted for his return to Japan to face charges.
