Tribu Sicablun Quatro tops Dinagsa street dance tilt

BACOLOD CITY – The Tribu Sicablun Quatro topped the 50th Dinagsa Festival street dance competition in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Jan. 26.

The group composed of Barangays Sicaba, Luna, and Zone 4 bested seven other tribes in a highly anticipated contest that drew thousands of spectators.

Tribu Sicablun bagged the grand prize of P200,000 and P50,000 for two minor awards – Best in Costume and Choreography. 

Tribu Sicablun Quartro defeated last year's grand winner – Tribu Bucad Cadiz Viejo representing Barangays Burgos, Caduhaan, and Cadiz Viejo. 

Second place was Tribu Tinambi-Tres composed of Barangays Tinampaan, Mabini, and Zone 3, which also won Best in Performance award. The group received P175,000 in prizes.

Third and hailed Best in Sound and Rhythm was Tribu Bucad Cadiz Viejo and pocketed P125,000.

Tribu Hitalon, representing Barangays Zones 1 and 6, was fourth place and Most Disciplined tribe, and won P100,000. 

Consolation prizes of P50,000 each were given to Tribu Vilgus of Barangay Celestino Villacin and V.F. Gustilo; Tribu Yabyab Dungol of Barangays Zones 2 and 5; Tribu Majeca of Barangays Magsaysay, Jerusalem, and Cabahug, and Tribu Tibanda of Barangays Tiglawigan, Banquerohan, and Daga. 

Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. thanked and praised participating barangays for their splendid and world-class performance in this year's street dance competition with the theme "Dinagsa Goes International."

"They all manifested the culture compassion and mindset of excellence," Escalante said. 

Escalante said that the eight competing tribes  showcased dynamism and the beauty of synergy as added elements to the real cores of celebrating Dinagsa Festival annually.

Cadiz kicked off the week-long Dinagsa Festival on Monday, Jan. 20, and ended on Sunday with the traditional "lamhitanay."

Escalante said that the city's festivity in honor of patron saint Senor Santo Nin̈o de Cadiz is a unique showcase of faith and devotion and promotes tourism.
