Dengue cases up 646% in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY – The City Health Services Office reported a 646 percent increase in dengue cases here last year compared to 2023.

Kimberly Sibayan, medical surveillance officer of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, said this city recorded 9,688 dengue cases in 2024, 8,389 more than the 1,299 two years ago.

Nineteen individuals – 11 males and eight females – died from the mosquito-borne disease in 2024, a 533 percent increase from three in 2023.

Sibayan said the age range of patients was one to 97 with a median of 23.

Barangay Irisan had the highest number of cases last year, followed by Bakakeng Central, Asin Road, Pacdal, Camp 7, Bakakeng Norte and Sur, Santo Tomas Proper, Loakan Proper, San Luis Village, and Gibraltar.

Health authorities said that dengue is now a year-round disease and people should always follow the various measures aggressively promoted to prevent contracting the disease such as taking self-protection measures, seeking early consultation, and saying no to fogging, staying hydrated, among others.
