Quezon City all set for Chinese New Year - Mayor Joy

The Quezon City government on Friday, Jan. 24, announced the activities on the grand Chinese New Year celebration in Banawe.

One of the highlights of the festivities is the unveiling of the newly-redecorated QC Chinatown, a project designed to boost local tourism and the area as a key cultural and commercial hub.

Mayor Joy Belmonte will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially launch the redesigned Chinatown on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

A morning Dance Fit session will also be held to kickoff the festivities for the day.

A variety of attractions, including over 50 food and non-food stalls showcasing Quezon City’s artisanal offerings awaits visitors as well as a gallery featuring a wishing tree, a 360-degree photo booth, and predictions for the Year of the Wooden Snake will also fill Banawe, stretching from Del Monte Avenue to Scout Alcaraz Street.

In addition, cultural performances such as the traditional dragon and lion dance and a street dance competition celebrating the creativity and talent of Quezon City’s youth will also take place.

In the afternoon, crowds will be serenaded by Ice Seguerra, Kyle Echarri, and Jed Madela, along with a one-of-a-kind performance by a Chinese face-changing artist. The festivities will conclude with a stunning fireworks display lighting up the evening sky.

To cap off the week’s festivities, a special episode of Usapang QC will air on Friday, January 24, featuring Feng Shui Master Hanz and Acting Tourism Operations Officer Giana Barata. The show will provide insights into Banawe’s transformation into QC Chinatown.

Mayor Joy Belmonte will also share her vision for the new year for Quezon City during the episode. The special episode will be streamed on the official QC Government Facebook page.

Local government officials promised an unforgettable experience, celebrating history, culture, and community to mark the start of the Chinese New Year.
