Manila Water to finish P7.8 billion treatment plant by third quarter

Manila Water Co., Inc. the East Zone concessionaire, announced on Friday, Jan. 24, that its new Water Treatment Plant (WTP) under the East Bay Phase 2 project is nearing completion.

In a statement, Manila Water said the 200 million liters per day (MLD) facility, located in Pakil, Laguna, is expected to be operational by the third quarter of this year.

The P7.84 billion project is currently 65 percent complete. Once finished, it will provide improved water service to 2.08 million residents in areas near Laguna Lake, including Rizal, Taguig, Pateros, and Pasig.

This new infrastructure will also reduce the burden on the Angat water system, ensuring sufficient supply during the hot season.

A transmission pipeline will connect the plant to Pakil, Jalajala, the Central Bay Laguna Lake highway, Binangonan-Cardona, and the shorelines of West Bay Laguna Lake.

"As the East Bay Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant takes shape, we are also constantly improving and expanding our network distribution," said Jeric Sevilla, communication affairs director, thanking local government partners for their support.

Manila Water also expects to complete the Kaysakat WTP next year, adding another 220 MLD of potable water for over a million consumers in the East Zone. Additionally, wastewater projects in Mandaluyong and Antipolo are scheduled to begin operations later this year.

Manila Water currently serves approximately 7.76 million consumers in its concession area,
