Over 300 families were displaced in a fire that gutted 30 houses at a residential area in Isla Puting Bato, Barangay 20, Tondo, Manila, on Thursday, Jan. 23.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire began at 2:01 a.m. from the second floor of one of the houses in Purok 5.
The blaze quickly spread to the adjacent houses and reached the fourth and fifth alarms at 2:21 a.m.
Authorities responded with 58 fire trucks deployed and around 40 from volunteer fire brigades.
The fire was declared under control by 3:42 a.m. and fully extinguished by 4:14 a.m.
Around 60 families were affected by the fire and are now being assisted by local authorities.
The BFP said the blaze caused damages estimated at P150,000.
It confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident.
Arson investigators said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident is the latest in a series of blazes that have hit Isla Puting Bato in recent years and the city government is calling for increased efforts to improve fire safety in the area.
