“This would be used as a deterrent for drunk driving. This is our proactive measure,” said LTO-6 Regional Director Gaudioso Geduspan II.

Geduspan said alcohol breath analyzers are generally meant to be used in implementing Republic Act No. 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.

He said that the penalty for violating RA 10586 is very harsh – imprisonment or revocation of licenses and a fine ranging from P20,000 to P500,000.

Geduspan said four alcohol breath analyzers have arrived at the regional office after being recalibrated at the LTO Central Office in Manila.

LTO-6 Assistant Regional Director Jeck Conlu said they are awaiting the arrival of 15 more alcohol breath analyzers undergoing recalibration in Manila. They will be deployed in other areas of Western Visayas.
