ILOILO CITY – Anthony Barredo Aguirre, a taxi driver here, was feted for returning P2.4 million in cash left by his passenger inside his vehicle on Jan. 18.

The passenger, a businesswoman, inadvertently left the bag in the A&A Marie Taxi driven by the Pavia town, Iloilo province native when she arrived at the seaport for her return trip to Bacolod City.
Aguirre learned that she left the bag and looked until he found it at the front seat.
He went to the Iloilo City Police Office-Lapuz Police Station where he met the owner and returned the bag.
The taxi management hailed Aguirre for his decision. “It is a big amount of money, but you choose to return it. Your dedication and honesty to your work shows how good of a person you are,” the A&A Marie Taxi management said in a statement.
Aguirre's honesty was rewarded.
He received a reward of P30,000 from Iloilo Rep. Michael “Mike” Gorriceta and Barangay Amparo of Pavia town. Aguirre received P20,000 from the Iloilo City government and Mayor Jerry Treñas declared him as an adopted son of Iloilo City.
