23-year-old man arrested for election gun ban violation in Taguig

A 23-year-old man was nabbed by the police for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition in Taguig on Jan. 21.

The suspect, identified as alias Ryan, was apprehended by the Taguig Police at about 5:40 p.m. in Barangay New Lower Bicutan.

His arrest was made after the police received a report about an indiscriminate firing in the area.

The incident was reported by a barangay official who called for police assistance after hearing gunfire.

Responding police officers went to the area. A follow-up operation resulted in the arrest of the suspect.

Authorities recovered an improvised short firearm without a serial number, along with four live rounds of .45-caliber ammunition and one empty shell.

The arrest is in line with the enforcement of the nationwide election gun ban, implemented starting Jan. 12 under the Omnibus Election Code (Republic Act 7166). The regulation prohibits the carrying of firearms and deadly weapons during the election period to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order.

Ryan is facing charges for violation of the gun ban and Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
