The Department of Tourism (DOT) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable tourism development after the Philippines took over the chairmanship of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco received the symbolic gavel from Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing during a ceremonial handover at the Johor International Convention Center on Jan. 20.
ATF 2026 will feature the ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Cebu, scheduled for January, alongside preparatory meetings in Manila and Boracay.
In her remarks at the "Love the Philippines Night," Frasco invited ASEAN nations and tourism partners to the Philippines, underscoring the country’s potential for sustainable tourism development.
“As the Philippines takes on the Chairmanship of ASEAN 2026, I invite you to join us in the Philippines for the 29th ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting in Cebu. It will be an opportunity not only to discuss policies but to witness firsthand the immense potential for sustainable tourism growth in the region,” Frasco said.
Frasco described Cebu as a model of cultural richness, natural beauty, and unity, emphasizing its role in advancing sustainable tourism practices.
She assured ASEAN nations of the Philippines’ preparedness to host global delegates with renowned Filipino hospitality.
Beyond the ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, the Philippines will host the TRAVEX trade show and other conferences to further promote the region’s sustainable tourism prospects.
The ceremonial handover marked the conclusion of ATF 2025, which brought together hundreds of delegates from ASEAN member states and global partners, including Japan, China, Russia, and India.
