Parañaque LGU conducts dry run of waste sorting line to improve waste management, reduce ocean plastics

The Parañaque City government conducted a dry run of its waste sorting line (WSL) at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) along C5 Extension, Barangay La Huerta, on Monday, Jan. 20, aiming to improve waste management and develop sustainable solutions to reduce ocean plastics.

Mayor Eric Olivarez was joined by his brother, Rep. Edwin Olivarez, during the visit made by members of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-Clean Cities, Blue Ocean (CCBO) at the MRF.

The mayor said Joel Palma, the country director of the CCBO-USAID, and Katie Hammer, USAID safety officer, were present during the conduct of the dry run as the city is one of the CCBO-USAID program’s grantees.

He said the project is part of CCBO’s assistance to the city government based on a Memorandum of Understanding between Parañaque City and Clean Cities, Blue Ocean (CCBO). 

Aside from improving waste management and developing solutions, the partnership also aims to establish a circular economy, empower vulnerable populations, reduce pollution impacting human health, and address climate challenges in the city.
