La Union achieves full landfill coverage

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – This province achieved full sanitary landfill coverage after the last two municipalities opened their dumpsites recently.

The provincial government led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David inaugurated the sanitary landfills of  Burgos and Bagulin during the last quarter of 2024.

All the 19 local government units now have their own dumpsites.

Ortega cited the vital role of these facilities in safeguarding the environment and supporting the province’s vision of becoming the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon.

She urged LGUs to ensure the proper maintenance of these facilities. "I ask for everyone’s cooperation in properly maintaining these facilities so that they can serve us for a long time.”

La Union is now the only province in the Ilocos region with 100 percent sanitary landfill facility coverage per component local government unit in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 geared towards environmental sustainability.
