The earthquake that hit Batangas on Jan. 20 was felt in Muntinlupa, according to the city government.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 hit the waters off Calatagan, Batangas at 6:43 p.m. on Jan 20.
According to the Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management, the earthquake registered intensity I in Muntinlupa.
“Naitala ang Intensity 1 na lindol at ito ay naramdaman sa ating lungsod (An Intensity 1 earthquake was recorded and it was felt in our city),” the MCDDRM posted on Facebook.

In addition, the earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 that hit the waters off Lubang, Occidental Mindoro was also felt in Muntinlupa.
The earthquake occurred at 6:42 p.m. on Jan. 20, just a minute earlier than the Batangas quake.
In its report, PHIVOLCS stated that it was felt in Muntinlupa under intensity 1.
Under the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS), intensity 1 is “scarcely perceptible.”
“Perceptible to people under favorable circumstances. Delicately balanced objects are disturbed slightly. Still Water in containers oscillates slowly,” according to the scale.
