‘Amihan’ brings chill to Luzon; shear line, easterlies cause rain showers in Eastern Visayas, Caraga

Cooler temperatures and scattered rains will continue to affect parts of Luzon due to the northeast monsoon (amihan), while the shear line and easterlies will bring rain showers and thunderstorms to Eastern Visayas and Caraga, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The amihan is expected to bring clouds and light rains to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon in the next 24 hours.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Meanwhile, PAGASA warned that the shear line and easterlies could trigger flash floods and landslides in some areas of Visayas and Mindanao, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.

The shear line—a weather system formed by the collision of cold winds from the amihan and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies)—will bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms to Northern and Eastern Samar.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies may also affect Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
