Senate honors Sofronio Vasquez for historic 'The Voice US' win


The Senate on Monday, January 20 honored Sofronio Vazquez, who won the American reality singing competition “The Voice.”

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero led the senators in honoring Vazquez, who made history for being the first Filipino and Asian to win the long-running talent show.

 

Vazquez was present at the Senate plenary to receive a copy of the resolution which was adopted on Jan. 14, 2025.

 

The Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 238, authored by Sen. Joel Villanueva, taking into consideratation SRN 1260 filed by Sen. Imee Marcos and SRN 1262 filed by Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada. 

 

“As the primary author of Adopted Resolution No. 238, this Representation joins all members of the Senate in congratulating Mr. Vasquez for this historic and truly remarkable achievement,” Villanueva said in his privilege speech.

 

“Higit sa lahat, patunay ang iyong tagumpay na world class talaga ang Pinoy. Dahil sa’yo, mas tumaas pa ang respeto ng buong mundo sa mga OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) at migranteng Pilipino (More than that, your victory also shows that Filipinos are really world class. Because of you, OFWs and Filipino migrants earned more respect from the whole world),” he further said. 

 

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero duly noted Villanueva’s manifestation. 

 

Vasquez was part of Canadian singer and songwriter Michael Buble’s team during the The Voice US competition. 

 

Recently, the Misamis Oriental-born singer paid a courtesy visit to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
