Lino Cayetano elated over his inclusion in Comelec's list of candidates

Former Taguig mayor Lino Cayetano expressed elation over the inclusion of his name in the list of candidates for the May 12 national and local elections. 

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) posted the list of candidates for congressman in the National Capital Region (NCR). 

For the position of representative in the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros, Cayetano’s name is among the five candidates. 

"Lumabas na po. #1 po tayo sa balota para sa unang distrito ng Taguig-Pateros. Time for unity na! Sama-sama na para sa mas maganda pa lalong serbisyo sa Taguig at Pateros (It’s already out. We are #1 on the ballot for the first district of Taguig-Pateros. It’s now time for unity! Let's come together for better services in Taguig and Pateros),” Cayetano posted on Facebook. 

For the position, Cayetano is running under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) gainst incumbent Rep. Ricardo Cruz Jr. (Nacionalista Party), Allan Cerafica (Partido Federal ng Pilipinas), Peter Dela Cruz (independent) and Ricardo Opoc (independent).

Last year, the Comelec’s Election Registration Board (ERB) in Taguig denied his application to transfer his voter registration to the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros. 

In 2013, Lino Cayetano was elected congressman of the 2nd District of Taguig and served for one term. 

The Comelec ERB in Taguig rejected the applications of Cayetano and his wife Fille after they failed to provide enough evidence to back their claim. 

An employee of the Taguig City hall and a tricycle driver questioned his application to transfer voter registration to the 1st District. 

Cayetano appealed the decision, saying, “I have every right to transfer our registration to the First District of Taguig and Pateros.”

His brother, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, and sister-in-law Mayor Lani Cayetano, endorsed Cruz as candidate for congressman.
