Two residents were killed and one senior citizen was injured in a fire that broke out at a three-storey residential building in Tondo, Manila, on Sunday, Jan. 19, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) confirmed.
According to BFP reports, the fire originated from the second floor of the building where the two victims were allegedly trapped inside their rooms and did not manage to escape.
The injured individual, identified as Joseph Pua, 63, the building owner, suffered lacerations during the incident.
Based on the reports, the fire started at 4:39 p.m.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze at 5:34 p.m., or in just one hour after it began.
They said the fire did not spread throughout the entire building.
Authorities reported that 10 families were displaced and approximately P50,000 worth of property was destroyed in the incident.
Arson investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, another fire broke out at a cold storage facility on Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue Barangay Del Monte, Quezon City on Monday morning, Jan. 20.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was raised to the 1st alarm at around 3:28 p.m. and raised to 2nd alarm at around 5:46 a.m.
The blaze escalated to the 3rd alarm at 8:21 a.m. and was declared under control at 12:19 p.m.
A total of 26 fire trucks were deployed in the area.
