The Manila Police District (MPD) conducted clearing operations around Quiapo Church and deployed approximately 250 personnel to ensure public safety during Quiapo’s First Friday Mass on Jan. 3.
Reports from the MPD Sta. Cruz Police Station indicated that devotees began gathering at Quiapo Church as early as 4 a.m.
By 9 a.m., the crowd had swelled to an estimated 20,500 attendees.
The police initiated a comprehensive clearing operation aimed at removing road obstructions and ensuring clear passage to the church.
The police also addressed the presence of unauthorized vendors who had set up stalls beyond the designated areas.
These vendors were promptly relocated to maintain order and avoid further congestion in the busy district.
As part of the effort to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize disruptions, vehicles parked along no-parking zones near the church were cleared during the early morning hours.
Meanwhile, the MPD reported that the event remained peaceful with no major incidents or disturbances.
Police visibility was maintained throughout the area to deter any potential security threats and provide assistance to attendees when necessary.
