Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet, was temporarily closed to all motorists starting Wednesday, Jan. 1, for the swift removal of debris caused by a fire near Camp 6, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
In a road advisory, the DPWH said the closure is necessary to expedite clearing operations after a fire broke out in the early hours of 2025.
It said that the temporary closure will remain in effect until the Metropolitan Baguio City, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay (MBLISTT) Council issues a revocation or replacement advisory.
Motorists travelling to and from Baguio City are advised to take alternative routes, such as Marcos Highway, which connects Rosario and Agoo towns in La Union, or Naguilian Road, which links Baguio to Bauang, La Union.
Considered a critical route to Baguio City, Kennon Road is known for heavy traffic, especially during the holiday season when tourists flock to the city, with significant delays expected due to the road closure.
The DPWH assured the public that clearing operations are being conducted with urgency to restore access to the road as soon as possible. Regular updates will be provided once the road is deemed safe for motorists.
