The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is already gaining quite a lot of attention around the world. That includes even high-end vehicle armoring services. It’s to be expected as, like its big brother the Land Cruiser 300, this Prado will likely be one of the top transport choices of VIPs and high-risk individuals.
As such, notable vehicle armorer, Inkas Armoring, based in Canada, has just unveiled their latest armored version of the Prado. The name may sound familiar as Inkas is also the maker of the Sentry Civilian, an armored vehicle any civilian can purchase.
Their version of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, by contrast, is much more subtle, retaining the stock look of the vehicle while cleverly concealing its protection underneath the sheet metal.
The vehicle is offered with BR6 level armoring, meaning it can withstand 7.62mm rounds fired from an assault rifle. The armor rating also means it can survive explosive or IED blasts, specifically up to two hand grenade blasts.
This is all thanks to ballistic panels with kevlar and thick metal plating. Everything beneath the sheet metal, from the doors, floors, firewall, roof pillars and roof pillars, are covered in the material. The company has also covered vulnerable areas, such as panel gaps and window frames where ballistic overlaps were added to prevent bullet and shrapnel intrusion into the cabin. There’s even protection for the fuel tank to ensure the vehicle can continue to operate after an attack. The tires include runflat inserts allowing it to be driven even after a puncture. The rear door features a second, ballistic-rated interior door for added protection.
This is just the standard package and the company will gladly add additional protection like more armoring in the engine bay, a blackout package or even a night vision camera.
Suffice to say, the Prado’s standard 2.4-liter turbo hybrid engine will be upgraded to handle the added weight. The same goes for its suspension and brake system.
Naturally, there is no price indicated as this may change depending on the clients wishes. Based on our past experience with armoring companies in the Philippines, it may easily amount to an additional P2M or more on top of the vehicle’s price.
