2 men shot dead, woman drowns on New Year’s Day


Two men were shot dead and a woman drowned in Quezon and Laguna on New Year’s Day.

In Lucena City, Quezon, a 19-year-old pedicab driver was shot dead by a security guard after he was caught in the act of opening the roll-up door of a store in a fish port in Barangay Dalahican.

Police identified the victim as Iverson D. Frejalde.

Frejalde was accosted by two security guards and tried to flee but he was shot by one of them.

The security guards left and the victim’s body was found by a fish port helper who reported the incident to the police.

The suspect was arrested in a follow-up investigation and faces a murder complaint.

Police said the victim was a notorious thief in the fish port.

Laguna

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – A 39-year-old street dweller was shot dead in Barangay 5 here.

The victim Richard P. Cruz was standing when gunmen on board a motorcycle appeared and shot him. He died on the spot from bullet wounds.

The suspects fled towards Barangay 3 and police are conducting an investigation.

Woman drowns

POLILLO, Quezon – A 54-year-old woman drowned while swimming in the sea in Barangay Sibulan, this town.

Police said fishermen saw the victim Jenny E. Atentido swimming and later on noticed that she was no longer moving.

Atendido was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead due to drowning.
