Reduced rainfall expected across parts of the country — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, Jan. 19 that cloud cover has significantly lessened across many parts of the country, leading to a decrease in rainfall over the next 24 hours.

While the northeast monsoon (amihan) continues to affect parts of Luzon, PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said the overall weather pattern is improving nationwide, especially in areas previously affected by heavy rainfall.

In the next 24 hours, Castañeda said Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon will have cloudy skies with rains due to the amihan.

There remains a possibility of flash floods or landslides in these areas, particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.

Castañeda added that in Mindanao, particularly in the eastern and southern areas, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will occur, caused by warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, known as easterlies.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the amihan.

Castañeda also confirmed that there are no low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones currently threatening the country.
