The Bureau of Customs at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has established K-9 unit that specializes on identifying hidden cash of passengers amid cases of smuggling money in and out of the country.
BOC-NAIA District Collector Yasmin Mapa said the move is a pro-active measure due to the increasing number of cases of passengers trying to take currency cash money out of the country.
Just recently, a female Chinese national passenger was caught by security at the final check carrying undeclared US dollars.
The K-9 is trained by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and will be deployed at the NAIA arrival and departure areas where all corners of the terminal will be checked.
Mapa said the deployment of K-9 dogs is part of the agreement with the PCG.
