Baguio City logs 37 dengue cases

BAGUIO CITY – The City Health Services Office has recorded 37 dengue cases here – 20 in December and 17 in the first two weeks of this month.

Dr. Donnabel Panes, chief of the City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU), said the increase in dengue cases during Christmas and New Year were attributed to human movement such as tourism, increased off-holiday activities, and back-to-school trips.

Panes also said that possi transport, where mosquitoes may have traveled through human transportation, may have contributed to the increase.

“Mosquitoes also go on vacation. They could have entered the public transport coming here to the city, and they spread the virus through their bite,” she said.

The CHSO advised residents and barangay officials to continue searching and destroying possible mosquito breeding sites – tires, flower pot dishes, and any material that may contain stagnant water inside and outside a household or any establishment.

The CHSO appealed to the public to implement preventive measures against dengue this year.

Barangays here that recorded dengue cases at the beginning of the year were Irisan, Loakan Proper, Asin Road, Pacdal, Pinsao Proper, Bakakeng Central, San Luis Village, Camp 7, and Pinget.

In 2024, more than 9,000 people suffered from dengue here with 24 deaths.
