Top breeders across the globe are set for a week-long showdown as they battle for the coveted crown in the 2025 World Slasher Cup 1st edition starting Monday, Jan. 20, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Long considered as the Olympics of Cockfighting, the annual event – now on its 62nd year – draws the veritable who’s who in the cockfighting industry.
The 2-cock eliminations are set on Jan. 20 to 21 then a 3-cock semifinals on Jan. 22 to 23 before taking a break.
The most awaited part then begins with pre-finals on Jan. 25 before the grand champion will be known via another 4-cock finals the following day.
“The world’s top breeders and cockfighting enthusiasts are converging once more, bringing their prized entries to the World Slasher Cup for a shot at the ultimate glory and a place in the sport’s history,” said Irene Jose, COO of Uniprom.
“Only the best and most skilled will claim the prestigious title of World Slasher Cup champion, a true mark of excellence in the sport of cockfighting,” she added.
For decades, World Slasher Cup has been the breeding ground of rising stars in cockfighting, including US-based Mike Formosa and Ray Alexander, and Filipino top-notch breeders in Patrick Antonio, Ed Apari and Biboy Enriquez.
Aside from the cockfighting action, the tournament also aims to cultivate the tradition, camaraderie and the excellence of the sport.
“This is the pinnacle of cockfighting. The energy in the arena is unmatched, and the competition is always fierce,” she continued.
