Police Lt. Col. Lowell Garinganao, Cauayan police chief, identified as the fatality as Alex.

Garinganao said the target of the shooting was Alex’s brother Gerald.

Gerald was on his way home on a motorcycle driven by a companion from a fiesta when four unidentified persons armed with .45 caliber pistols fired at him a few meters away from his house.

His companion escaped unharmed and Gerald, who was wounded in the chest, managed to run to his house.

The suspects followed Gerald to his house and passed by a room where Alex was sleeping.

The suspects, thinking it was Gerald, shot Alex, who recently arrived from Manila. Alex sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Gerald was able to sneak into the back of their house and is now recuperating in a hospital here.

The incident was reported to the police on Thursday morning, Jan. 16.

Police are investigating insurgency, grudges, or mistaken identity as possible motives behind the incident.

Garinganao said they have persons of interest.
