The fiery mentor felt like his wards were not as sharp as they used to be during the back-to-back losses to Phoenix and Meralco.

“‘Yung last two games namin medyo half-hearted yung pag compete namin. Hindi kami kasing diin, di kami kasing determindado siguro nakakabuti rin na may losing streak ka,” said Guiao whose Elasto Painters exactly looked like the same team which went on a hot run after a 127-107 of the erstwhile top spot NorthPort Batang Pier.

“It’s a wake up call. It's a way to reset your mindset so nakabuti rin sa amin,” he added.

Make no mistake though, despite the sudden downshift to their usual high-octane offense, Guiao’s faith in his wards never wavered. He believed his players only needed to rediscover their competitive nature and veer away from complacency.

“Malaki ang tiwala ko dito sa team namin sabi ko nga as long as we’re competing we should be okay,” said Guiao.

Good thing, ROS responded and snapped out of its offensive slump with an impressive 50-percent clip from the field and with seven players scoring in double-figures led by import Deon Thompson’s 27 points and the 16 point apiece from Adrian Nocum and Santi Santillan.

More than the offense, however, Guiao, credited the team’s defense particularly on NorthPort local stars Arvin Tolentino and Joshua Munzon as the biggest difference in the blowout win.

NorthPort import Kadeem Jack had 37 points but Tolentino and Munzon were limited to 19 and 17 respectively.

“I think it was more of our defense tonight eh ang taas ng score namin pero sa amin kasi ang mataas na score, medyo normal sa pace namin. Ang maganda pa rito meron kaming seven guys in double figures. Iyon talaga hinahabol namin na mag balanse ang opensa namin,” Guiao pointed out.

“Sa kabila kasi alam namin tatlong tao iiskor dun, import, Munzon and Tolentino. Kung mabawasan lang namin yun tapos mahold namin yung locals nila na di makacontribute which is yun yung nangyari,” he added.
