The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, Jan. 17 said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is currently within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility that could potentially affect the country in the next few days.
However, PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said that prevailing weather systems will continue to cause rain showers in parts of the country.
From Saturday, Jan. 18 to Monday, Jan. 20, Estareja said scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected to affect Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon due to the shear line—a weather system formed by the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).
Meanwhile, from Sunday to Monday, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across Caraga, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen.
The ITCZ is a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
Estareja also noted that the amihan is expected to bring cool weather with occasional light rains over the rest of Northern and Central Luzon, including Metro Manila.
The rest of the country will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, which may occur in the afternoon or evening.
