Metro Manila crimes down by 23.73 percent – NCRPO

Crimes in Metro Manila dipped by 23.73 percent during a nearly two-month monitoring by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), its top official disclosed Friday, Jan. 17.

NCRPO acting director Police Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said that there were 768 index crimes recorded in Metro Manila from Nov. 23, 2024 to Jan. 15, 2025. This was lower compared to 1,007 index crimes reported from Nov. 23, 2023 to Jan. 15, 2024.

Index crimes involve crimes against persons such as murder, homicide, physical injury, and rape; and crimes against property such as robbery, theft, and carnapping/carjacking.

Meanwhile, the NCRPO said it also seized P153,293,391.60 worth of illegal drugs as part of its intensified campaign.

In its campaign against illegal gambling, the NCRPO said it conducted 1,518 operations that resulted in the arrest of 3,806 suspects and the confiscation of P928,071.50 in bet money.

The NCRPO also marked significant progress in its campaign against illegal firearms as it arrested 352 violators and confiscated 364 firearms.

The NCRPO also arrested 976 Most Wanted Persons (MWP) and 1,190 Other Wanted Persons (OWP) during the period, and apprehended 349,465 violators of various local ordinances in Metro Manila.

Aberin, who assumed the top NCRPO post on Nov. 23 last year, attributed the decline in crime incidents to the intensified police presence in the streets and areas of convergence, comprehensive and balanced deployment of personnel during major events, and establishment of a police force “that can be truly seen, heard and felt by the community.”

“NCRPO shall consider these initial operational milestones as our motivation to remain committed in performing our mandate of keeping the peace in Metro Manila,” Aberin said.
