Tamayo dazzles anew as Sakers exact revenge on Thunders

The 23-year-old Gilas star uncorked 24 points – on top of seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks – to lead the Sakers’ scoring to clinch their second straight win for a 17-13 slate at third spot.

It was a fitting win for Tamayo, who was named as the league’s third round MVP after averaging 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.7 assists in six games.

Proving why Tamayo deserved the feat was a back-to-back 30-point output by the former UP ace which included a career-high 37 that was spoiled by the Thunders via a 92-88 escape last week.

Darry Monroe added 10 points and 12 rebounds while Yang Jun-Seok put up 16 points and 12 assists for Changwon while Choi Seong-Mo (24), Fil-Am Justin Gutang (14), and Lee Weon-Seok (11) topped the offensive column of Seoul, which sustained its 18th loss with 11 wins at eighth.

Coming up next for the Sakers are the Goyang Sono Skygunners next Thursday, Jan. 23.

Meanwhile, the Skygunners survived the gritty Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, 84-81, to halt their five-game losing slide.

Despite missing the services of two-time UAAP MVP Kevin Quiambao due to a ruptured ankle ligament, Goyang Sono banked on Kim Jin-Yu (18) and Lee Jae-Do (18).

Shawn Long (19) and former CSB Blazers guard Migs Oczon came out big for Ulsan with the latter scattering 19 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.

The Skygunners picked up their 10th victory against 20 defeats at ninth spot while Mobis Phoebus still looked great with a 20-9 win-loss record in second place.
