Rain showers continue across the Philippines as 3 weather systems persist

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Jan. 16 that three weather systems will continue to bring rain showers across the country over the next 24 hours.

PAGASA warned of flash floods and landslides in areas affected by the shear line, easterlies, and northeast monsoon (amihan), particularly during moderate to heavy rainfall.

Bicol Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line—a weather system formed by the collision of cold winds from the amihan and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the easterlies will also affect Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Davao Region, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.

The amihan will bring cloudy skies and rain to Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Meanwhile, the impact of amihan is expected to remain minimal in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Central Luzon, where only isolated light rains are anticipated.

The rest of the country may experience fair weather, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and isolated rain showers due to the easterlies.
