DSWD Walang Gutom program expands to Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – Walang Gutom, a flagship program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to address hunger among vulnerable families, has expanded to Iloilo province.

The DSWD-6 held a food redemption activity in Batad town on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Food assistance worth P870,000 was released to 290 family beneficiaries. Each beneficiary received P3,000 and were released via the electronic benefit transfer cards that they used to purchase food.

“The Walang Gutom is more than just a food assistance program – it is a symbol of hope and progress, ensuring no child goes to bed hungry and no family is left behind,” said DSWD-6 Assistant Regional Director for Operations Katherine Joy M. Lamprea.

The DSWD-6 initially implemented the program in Negros Occidental and expanded to Iloilo and Antique provinces.

In Iloilo, a total of 10,406 household beneficiaries will benefit from the program in 42 towns and the component city of Passi.

The Walang Gutom Program Regional Program Management Office led by Asuncion M. Santiago is working closely with local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders in the food redemption activities.

The DSWD-6 is tapping local farmers and retailers to provide food.
