The Triathlon Association of the Philippines is sending elite athletes to the 2025 Asian Duathlon Championships slated on Jan. 24 to 25 in Manama, Bahrain.
Multiple Southeast Asian Games champions Kim Mangrobang and John Chicano banner the elite squad composed of Joy Trupa, Jena Valdez, Bea Quiambao, John Ciron, Patrick Yee and Maynard Pecson in the race that stake berths to the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China on Aug. 7 to 17.
“We hope to qualify at least two athletes,” said TRAP President Tom Carrasco in a radio interview.
Qualifying to the World Games has been the goal for Mangrobang as far as Carrasco was concerned as the 33-year-old three-time SEAG winner hopes to redeem herself from her debut appearance in the 2022 edition held in Birmingham, Alabama.
It can be recalled that Mangrobang was among the 11 athletes who were disqualified in the race due to confusion where they either cut the course or took a longer version of it.
So far, Filipino athletes from different sports have already earned spots in the World Games.
The Philippine dragon boat team booked a ticket through its performance in the mixed 10-seater race at the 2024 ICF Dragon Boat World Championships, while the national floorball team grabbed a slot after finishing as the best team from Asia-Oceania in the 2024 Men’s World Floorball Championships.
Other Filipino qualifiers are Hergie Bacyadan in kickboxing, Rubilen Amit in billiards, and wushu athletes Carlos Baylon Jr., Thornton Quieney Sayan and Agatha Wong.
