A farmer was shot and wounded by a barangay chairman in Barangay Santa Isabel Sur, City of Ilagan City, Isabela, on Monday night, Jan. 13.
Police identified the victim as Jon Jon.
Initial investigation said the victim and the suspect Rey, chairman of Barangay Santa Isabel Sur, were having a drinking session during a birth anniversary celebration when a heated argument erupted.
Rey left and returned armed with a gun. He shot the victim in the head. The suspect fled.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he is in critical condition. The hospital informed police about the incident.
The suspect surrendered to City of Ilagan Mayor Jay Diaz on Tuesday, Jan. 14, and was turned over to the police.
Rey faces a frustrated murder case, case officer Police Master Sgt. Marck Denis Calimbo said.
