The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a weather advisory from Thursday, Jan. 15 to Saturday, Jan. 18, forecasting continued scattered rains and thunderstorms in various parts of the country due to multiple weather systems.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the shear line will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms to Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and the northern portion of Bicol Region.
The shear line is caused by the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).
Estareja also said the rest of Bicol Region, along with Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and parts of Davao Region, will continue to experience a high likelihood of rain as the easterlies continue to affect the country.
He added that the southern portions of Mindanao may also experience rain and thunderstorms due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), a weather system formed by the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
Over the next three days, Estareja said cooler weather will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon due to the amihan. Light to moderate rains are also expected.
Meanwhile, isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected over Visayas and Mindanao due to localized thunderstorms and the easterlies.
PAGASA advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert for the possibility of flash floods and landslides.
