Police shoot burglar who started fire inside Zamboanga City store

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police shot a suspected burglar who started a fire inside a commercial establishment on Gov. Camins Ave. here on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The suspect, Manny Dianseng Diaz, 38, was spotted trying to enter a house outside the store.

Residents chased him and the suspect climbed up the wall of the establishment and gained entry through the roof.

He ignited a fire that burned a small portion of the store and stayed inside the building until police arrived and negotiated with him.

The suspect attacked a police officer who shot him in the leg. Diaz sustained a bullet wound and taken to a hospital.

Police found an axe and two machetes used by the suspect.

Diaz is facing arson charges, among other complaints expected to be filed by the establishment owner.
