Man missing for almost 3 years found dead in Caloocan

The remains of a man reported missing for nearly three years were discovered in a grassy area in Caloocan City after a suspect in a recent kidnapping and homicide case confessed to his involvement in the disappearance.

The Quezon City Police District - Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) uncovered the remains during their investigation into the Jan. 5 kidnapping and killing of a businessman.

The suspect, identified as Noli Banegas Cape, 29, admitted responsibility for the 2022 disappearance of a man named “Noel” after being confronted by authorities.

The victim’s mother recognized Cape on television on Jan. 13 and reported to the QCPD that Cape was a friend of her son.

She said her son was last seen on March 16, 2022, leaving their home in Caloocan City on a black motorcycle.

Cape confessed to his involvement and directed investigators to the disposal site in Casoy Street, Pangarap Village, Barangay 182, Caloocan City.

Authorities confirmed that the remains matched those of a male body discovered in the area on March 18, 2022.

The victim’s mother positively identified the remains through photographs provided by the Forensic Unit of Caloocan City.

Police said that the remains were now in the custody of a funeral home in Barangay 180, Camarin, Caloocan City.

QCPD Chief Col. Melecio Buslig Jr. commended his team for their swift action and dedication to justice.

“This success is a testament to our unwavering dedication to delivering justice and ensuring the safety of our community. The Quezon City Police District will remain steadfast in its mission to serve and protect the people of Quezon City,” he said.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine Cape’s involvement in other potential crimes and to ensure justice for the victims.
