Toyota Philippines has updated the Corolla Altis for 2025. For this model year, it comes with enhanced design, advanced technology, and an upgraded hybrid system. Although the unveiling lacked the typical fanfare associated with new model releases, the arrival of the latest updated Altis was inevitable following the recent Thailand launch. There are still three variants, but only two available engines, following Toyota’s recent decision to drop the 1.6-liter engine from the lineup. What remains is the 1.8 G CVT, 1.8 GR-S CVT, and the range-topping 1.8 GR-S HEV.
Sharper design with GR-S hybrid features
The 2025 Toyota Corolla Altis showcases some significant, though minor, exterior updates, particularly in the GR-S HEV variant. Key changes include a more aggressive front fascia with a larger grille, redesigned LED headlights, and sportier front and rear bumpers. The new front treatment more closely aligns the Altis with its Gazoo Racing brothers, the GR Corolla and GR Yaris. Side skirts and a blacked-out rear spoiler complete the look, emphasizing the Altis' sporty ambitions. Toyota has retained the old 17-inch alloy wheels, but instead of a two-tone finish, a polished silver alloy version is used instead. The GR-S badge has always denoted a performance-oriented styling direction that preserves the practicality and everyday usability that the Corolla Altis is known for.
Interior enhancements and advanced technology
Inside, the 2025 Corolla Altis GR-S Hybrid offers a blend of sporty design elements and cutting-edge features. The cabin is adorned with red stitching, GR-branded headrests, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. A new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides a modern touch, allowing for customizable displays of various driving information. The infotainment system has been upgraded to a larger 10.5-inch touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for enhanced connectivity and convenience. Additionally, the 2025 model comes with improved safety technology, as Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) is now standard on the GR-S HEV, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking, which aim to ensure peace of mind for both drivers and passengers.
Upgraded hybrid system with new battery
One of the most notable improvements in the 2025 Corolla Altis is its hybrid powertrain. Toyota has replaced the older nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery with a more efficient lithium-ion unit. This transition results in a lighter and more compact battery, improving overall system performance and enhancing fuel efficiency. The hybrid system combines a 1.8-liter gasoline Atkinson-cycle engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 121 Ps. The updated powertrain is designed to provide a smoother and more responsive driving experience, allowing the car to maintain EV mode for much longer, while maintaining the excellent fuel economy associated with the Corolla Altis Hybrid.
Pricing and availability
The 2025 Toyota Corolla Altis GR-S HEV is priced at ₱1,755,000, with the non-hybrid 1.8 GR-S CVT going for ₱1,327,000. Finally the lowest-tier 1.8 G CVT goes for ₱1,207,000. Although the price represents a slight increase compared to its predecessor, Toyota is hoping that the advancements in design, technology, and efficiency validate the premium for many buyers.
