Senator Francis Tolentino is set to launch the LITAW Program—a forward-thinking disaster relief initiative aimed at providing swift and comprehensive assistance to Filipino families affected by natural calamities and disasters.
LITAW is an acronym for Liwanag (Light), Internet, Tubig (Water), Assistance, and Welfare, and will focus on addressing the urgent needs of communities devastated by disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and fires.
Under the said program the restoration of essential services—electricity, internet connectivity, and clean water—while delivering direct welfare assistance to families in need would be paramount.
“The LITAW Program will not only provide immediate relief but also help communities rebuild and recover with dignity and resilience,” Tolentino said during the recently held Philippine Councilors’ League where he shared his vision for the program.
Under the LITAW program, restoration of basic utilities such as electricity, internet access, and clean water in disaster-stricken areas would be prioritized.
The program would also include financial and welfare assistance to directly support families in rebuilding their lives.
Moreover, the program will promote sustainable disaster response infrastructure to ensure long-term preparedness and recovery mechanisms for future calamities.
The LITAW Program is expected be launched this month with pilot initiatives targeting some of the most disaster-prone regions in the Philippines.
As part of his re-election campaign, Tolentino vowed to pursue the institutionalization of this program as a critical component of the country’s disaster management framework.
“The goal is not just to provide temporary relief but to give Filipino families the tools and resources they need to recover and thrive even in the aftermath of a disaster,” Tolentino emphasized.
