Las Piñas PNP sets up 20 checkpoints as poll season begins

The Las Piñas City Police had set up 20 checkpoints at the start of the implementation of the Commission on Election's (Comelec) gun ban in the city’s different barangays on Sunday, Jan. 12, in line with the May 12 national and local elections.

Las Piñas City Police chief Col. Sandro Tafalla said the six police substations started to set up checkpoints in their areas of jurisdiction for the strict implementation of the gun ban which started at 12:01 a.m. of Jan. 12.

Tafalla said the Comelec gun ban period will be from Jan. 12 to June 11 to ensure a safe and orderly election process.

He said Southern Police District Director Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena and Las Piñas Comelec officer, Atty. Datumama Macaindig, led the kickoff of the installation of Comelec check points in the city.

The city police chief reminded the public and the community to cooperate with the law enforcers and warned them against carrying firearms without proper authorization.

Tafalla said the Comelec checkpoints that had been set up in different barangays around the city will also be replicated in other areas to ensure that the gun ban is strictly implemented.
