Baguio City experienced its coldest day so far this northeast monsoon or “amihan” season, with temperatures dropping to 13.8 degrees Celsius (°C), based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Jan. 12.
This is the lowest temperature recorded in the city since the onset of the 2024-2025 northeast monsoon season.
PAGASA attributed the chilly weather to the prevailing amihan.
The following are the top 10 stations that recorded the lowest air temperatures throughout Sunday: Baguio City (13.8℃); Itbayat, Batanes (17.5 ℃); Malaybalay, Bukidnon (18℃); Casiguran, Aurora (18.2℃); Tanay, Rizal (19.1℃); Abucay, Bataan (19.4℃); Calayan, Cagayan (19.9℃); Baler, Aurora (20℃); Sinait, Ilocos Sur (20.2℃); and Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (20.4℃).
In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora will continue to experience cloudy and rainy weather due to the amihan.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains.
PAGASA said the amihan will continue to bring cooler-than-usual air temperatures, particularly in the eastern sections of the country, along with occasional surges of colder temperatures throughout January.
The temperature forecast for the month ranges from 19°C to 33.9°C in Metro Manila, 10.2°C to 27.8°C in the mountainous areas of Luzon, 13.1°C to 35.5°C for the rest of Luzon, 20.1°C to 35°C in the Visayas, 13.7°C to 33.4°C in the mountainous areas of Mindanao, and 18.8°C to 37.1°C for the rest of Mindanao.
