Streak busters: Tuffin scores last-gasp putback as Phoenix snaps ROS hot run

With the game tied at 91-all, the Fuel Masters wingman stepped up in the waning seconds and followed up a missed layup from Jason Perkins to not only help Phoenix notch its first win streak of the season but also kept themselves in the equation for a playoff spot.

Phoenix has only picked up its third win through eight games – but two of it came against the top 2 teams in the league – the other one being NorthPort, which, like Rain or Shine, saw its five-game win streak got snapped by the gritty Fuel Masters.

Tuffin only had eight points and seven rebounds but his last-gasp putback preserved another impressive showing from import Donovan Smith who posted 22 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

Four other Phoenix players scored in double figures with Tyler Tio firing 16 and RR Garcia chipping in a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. Perkins had 12 while RJ Jazul added 11.

Deon Thompson finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds and six assists to lead ROS which battled back from a 12-point deficit in the first half. 

Santi Santillan cooled down after pouring 16 of his 19 points in the first half while Adrian Nocum added 16.

Rain or Shine was down five heading into the final minute when it unloaded a crucial 5-0 spurt courtesy of a triple from Andrei Caracut and jumper from Jhonard Clarito to knot the game at 91-apiece

Phoenix, however, went full court in its last possession with the ball landing at the hands of Perkins. He drove hard to the basket but was blocked by Clarito before Tuffin from out of nowhere grabbed the offensive board for the game-winner.
