Shear line, 'amihan' to affect parts of Luzon, Visayas

Overcast skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in parts of Luzon and Visayas on Saturday, Jan. 11, due to weather systems being monitored by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its weather forecast, PAGASA said the shear line affects the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas, while the northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” is affecting Northern and Central Luzon.

PAGASA said that due to the shear line, Visayas, the Bicol Region, and Mimaropa will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The “amihan” will bring cloudy skies and rain to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon.

PAGASA added that the northeast monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The Davao Region and SOCCSKSARGEN will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides are possible during severe thunderstorms, which could bring moderate to heavy, or at times intense, rainfall.
