The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) is looking at sending the men’s national team to various foreign training camps in the coming months in preparation for its participation in the FIVB Men’s World Championships in September that the country is hosting.
PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara said they are looking at sending the team to Japan, Portugal, Spain and Italy to hone their skills heading to the sports’ grandest tournament stage.
“My target for them is to stay outside the Philippines for the next three to four months, tapos balik sila dito 100 days before the competition,” said Suzara.
Suzara added they are also arranging for a mini pocket tournament for the squad against Korea, Japan and one team from Europe that would serve as a test event going to the world championships.
Also part of their program for the Nationals is having them participate in tournaments such as the Champions League, the Champions Cup and the SEA VLeague.
“It will be an added exposure for our players and would help strengthen them for the worlds,” Suzara said.
As host country, the Nationals earned a spot in the elite tournament comprising 31 other nations that include defending champion Italy, three-time champion Brazil, and former winners United States, Poland, Germany, and Czech Republic, to name a few.
The tournament is slated Sept. 12 to 28 with two main venues -- at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
