P4.8-M smuggled cigarettes seized in Lanao del Norte


BUTUAN CITY – Police seized smuggled cigarettes valued at P4.8 million in Pantar, Lanao del Norte on Jan. 8.

Police Regional Office 10-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Joann N. Navarro said two suspected smugglers were apprehended and now under investigation by arresting units.

The Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Office said lawmen flagged down a white truck during a checkpoint in Barangay Campong at around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 8.

Police conducted an inspection and found out that the truck driven by Ja, 50, accompanied by helper Mone, was found to be transporting cigarettes worth P4.8 million without proper documentation.

The confiscated cigarettes and vehicle were turned over to the Bureau of Customs in Iligan City for proper disposition.

The suspects are in the custody of Pantar MPS and face appropriate charges.

PRO-10 Director Police Brig. Gen. Jaysen C. de Guzman commended operating units for their achievement.

“We will remain vigilant and committed to fight smuggling activities across the region,” he said. “I would like to remind everyone especially those who engage in illegal activities that we will not stop with our efforts to dismantle criminal operations and bring those involved to justice.”
