A college dean and his nephew were shot dead in an ambush on Thursday afternoon, Jan. 9, in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

Police identified the victims as Henry Racho, 51, dean and sports coordinator of the Notre Dame of Salaman College in Lebak, and his 17-year-old nephew, Eric James Moyet, residents of Barangay Cadiz, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.
Police Lt. Col. Joseph Galleto, Lebak police chief, said the victims were riding a motorbike in Barangay Maregaeg, Lebak, when they were gunned down at about 5:30 p.m. at the height of a heavy downpour.
Racho’s nephew died on the spot. The school official was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
The NDSC condemned the murder of Racho and his relative.
Fr. Charlie Celeste, school president, urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation ensuring justice for the victims and accountability for those responsible.
Violence and impunity should have no place in our civil society, Celeste added.
Minutes later at 5:45 p.m., a couple was ambushed and killed while riding a motorcycle in Purok Tambes, Barangay Santa Clara, Kalamansig.
Police Major Rodney Binoya, town police chief, identified the victims as Nestor Rondon, 67, and his wife, Marilou Rondon, 60, residents of Barangay Sangay, Kalamansig.
Follow-up investigation on both cases is ongoing.
